Last night I watched Lindsey Jacobellis compete, and we all know what happened. And what torqued me off the most was that the announcers kept saying that this would not silence her critics or her fans, and that she had to answer to them. What?!?
Because four years ago she was excited and tried a move that she probably does every day a million times a day and it cost her? You think she doesn't beat herself up enough every day over that? I tell you what folks, if she had still won that, everyone would have thought her the coolest thing ever for pulling it off!
And now she has to answer to people for working her ass off for four more years, training constantly, watching her diet, maintaining an athlete's lifestyle so that she can compete in events over a long period just to make the Olympics AGAIN? How many of you have been there even once? How many of you make the daily sacrifices she makes on even a monthly basis? I don't - I like my warm bed at 5 in the morning, I like watching my tv at night, I like my fast food, I don't like doing things that make me sore and achy, or injuring myself and pushing through so I can be told I let people down again. Screw it and hand me a Big Mac.
When her critics and fans have put in HALF of what this girl has, then they can talk. And that goes for any athlete who tries and wins or loses....walk a mile in their athletic gear, folks, and you'll shut your mouths.
